- In India you have playgrounds (or atleast an open space) every one or two kms down the road, where you can always find kids playing cricket. In US, there are tennis courts instead. A row of three or four courts, sometimes with a basket ball court in the background, is normal.

- Crow is the ubiquitous bird in India. Take a look out of your window any day and you can be sure to spot a crow. In US, there is no such bird. But you can be sure to see a squirrel hopping around somewhere.

- Squirrels in US look exactly like the cartoon characters chip-n-dale. They are unusually healthy and well built. Desi squirrels look almost emaciated in comparison.

- In US, you don't have a place to park your car. In India, you don't have roads to drive your car on. Owning a car is a headache at both places.

- Switches and door knobs in exactly opposite manner. In US, you push a switch "up" to turn on the light and turn the door knob anti-clockwise to open your door.

- A hair cut costs 15 rupees in India. In US, it costs 15 dollars. (To think of it, many more things have the same cost, except for the fact that the currency is different. But more about that later.)

- The American barber, by the way, is not much different from an Indian one. Why, both ask you the same question "How short do you want your hair cut?". You say, "Short, but not too short". He nods his head and begins. Thats it. End of the conversation. Done.

- the alphabet Z is pronounced "zee" in the US, as against "zed" in India. So, you have "zee-transform", "zee-axis" instead of the "zed" versions. Channel MHz is pronounced "em-ech-zee" and not, Mega Hertz ;)
